Beginner Golf Sets

Most package sets include a driver, one or two fairway woods, a hybrid, a run of irons through to the pitching wedge, a putter, a bag and matching headcovers — enough to play a full round from day one. The exact club list differs between models, so check the description on the product page of the set you like.

They describe who the set is built for and which hand you swing with:

• MRH — Men's, right-handed
• MLH — Men's, left-handed
• LRH — Ladies', right-handed
• LLH — Ladies', left-handed

"Right-handed" means you hold the club with your left hand on top and the ball is to your left as you address it. If you write and throw right-handed, a right-handed set is almost always correct.

No — the rules allow up to fourteen clubs, but nobody has to carry that many. A package set gives you the clubs that cover the widest range of shots, which is exactly what you want while your swing is still settling. You can add wedges and specialist clubs later, once you know which distances you are missing.

Graphite is lighter and easier to get airborne, which suits slower swings, women, juniors and anyone starting later in life. Steel is heavier and a little more consistent, and tends to suit stronger, faster swings. If you are unsure, graphite is the more forgiving starting point — and our Fitting Studio can settle it properly in one session.

Petite sets are built shorter than standard ladies' clubs and are generally the better fit for players under roughly 160 cm. Standard length suits most players above that. If you are close to the line, measure from your wrist to the floor rather than going by height alone, or ask us.

Junior sets are sized by the child's height, not their age, because children of the same age vary enormously. Each junior set lists the height range it is built for. Children grow out of a set in a couple of seasons, so it is usually not worth buying long — a set that fits now will do far more for their swing.
